Reagan State of the Union, 1983, in the Chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives; this is a Joint Session of the House and Senate together.

B-day classes are playing State of the Union Bingo.  You may play, too — here’s the bingo card, from the National Constitution Center:

President Obama will deliver his second State of the Union address to a Joint Session of Congress, tonight.  Listen to the speech, cross off the box with the phrase, if he uses it.

Bring the form in as homework, on Wednesday or Thursday.  Be ready to discuss what you see at the speech.

In Dallas, the speech should be broadcast on Channel 4 (Fox), Channel 5 (NBC), Channel 8 (ABC), Channel 11 (CBS), and Channel 13 (PBS).  On radio, it will be carried on KERA 90.1 FM (NPR), and perhaps on KRLD 1080 AM.  It may be carried on C-SPAN and CNN.  There will be a webcast from the White House, and rebroadcasts should be available through the night.  Full texts of the speech should be available at the New York Times website, and perhaps at the Dallas Morning News.

There are lots of places to catch the speech.

  2. No bother. That’s the plan.

In the meantime, if you go to the top post on this blog, you can download the State of the Union Bingo card, get a text of the speech, and play!

This is also a great place to ask questions about assignments, etc.

Today in class we saw videos of Presidents Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, and Herbert Hoover. You should read up on those guys — especially Hoover and Hoovervilles.

What do you think about this little point of history?
